For the past couple of years, the women of Modist have been getting together to celebrate International Women’s Day by brewing a Zero IBU New England IPA. Every year we team up with our friends at And Now She Rises (ANSR), a non profit dedicated to supporting abuse survivors in emergency shelters, and breaking the silence about domestic violence at local events and in educational panels on college campuses.. Last year our annual International Women’s Day (IWD) party was the last event we had before we had to shut down. While we may not be able to party in person, this year our IWD beer will be the most impactful yet. Wait, how does that work?! Check it out:
We’re excited to announce that not only will this year’s IWD beer be released in cans for the first time ever, we’ve also teamed up with world renowned gender equality thought leader Michelle P. King, author of The Fix, a bestselling and award winning book on gender equality in the workplace as well as participating in Michelle’s 100 Actions for Equality. Introducing The Fix: IWD 2021, our Zero IBU New England IPA (BECAUSE FEMINISM IS ABOUT ZERO TOLERANCE FOR INEQUALITY) brewed with Golden Promise barley malt, wheat malt and flaked oats. It’s hopped and double dry hopped with our hand-selected Simcoe, El Dorado Cashmere, Ahtanum, Citra, Loral & Sabro. As always, all proceeds of The Fix: IWD 2021 will go directly to ANSR to help support their efforts of helping survivors of domestic violence. Thanks to the generous support of our friends at BSG for donating the ENTIRE malt bill for this beer, which will result in an additional $3,900 donation to ANSR.
In lieu of the usual party, we’re participating in Michelle P. King’s 100 Actions for Equality to challenge everyone to take up 100 Actions for Equality in 2021. So, instead of throwing the huge shindig, we’re asking for you all, when you’re drinking the beer, share it on social media and let us know what actions you’re taking to make the world, the work place, or general life a more equitable place for people of all gender identities, and to challenge someone you know to do the same on your social channels using the hashtags #ChooseToChallenge #IWD2021 #100ActionsForEquality.
The Fix: IWD 2021 will be released in the taproom on Saturday, March 6th and will start making its way to liquor stores on Tuesday, March 9th. Check back here on Tuesday, March 9th for the local delivery schedule.

Everyone – regardless of economic status, race, age or religion is affected by domestic violence. In fact, the FBI estimates violence will occur during the course of two-thirds of marriages. And because domestic abuse isn’t always physical––it can be verbal attacks, emotional manipulation, extreme isolation and financial control––it doesn’t always leave marks we can see. That’s why the CDC has called this a hidden epidemic and a “serious public health problem.”
At And Now She Rises, we think the answer (or the ANSR, ahem) is up to the public too.
Only a woman can pull herself out of an abusive situation, but moving forward from that point on requires community… from safety-plans for the hours immediately after she escapes to the support groups she may need to rely on for years afterward; from legal help to housing logistics to learning how to engage in healthy relationships again. And most important of all: understanding. A survivor needs our willingness to see her reality and circle the wagons around her.
Founded by abuse survivors, And Now She Rises is a 501(c)3 nonprofit building awareness of domestic violence and providing assistance to women in emergency shelters.
Our passion to curb this public health crisis is so intense, 100% of our work is volunteer (translation: unpaid), completed in the hours between when our day jobs end and our kids wake up. Just think about how much more we could accomplish with your help.
