Embrace the Void

Introducing Embrace the Void!  A monster Peanut Butter Imperial Stout brewed with chocolate malt, caramel malt and wheat malt, then conditioned on peanuts, Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, Butterfinger & cocoa nibs. Holy Shit that’s a lot of peanut butter. 11% abv.

Recent experience suggests that online bottle releases are uhhhh popular/difficult/some people get maaaaad. So, in an effort to make this the fairest and calmest process possible, this bottle release will be raffle for an opportunity to purchase a bottle. Please read these instructions AND the questions below. How it works:

  1. Sometime between NOW and Friday, May 1st at 8:00 am, follow the link at the bottom to fill out the raffle entry form (free to enter, limit one entry per person).
  2. Randomly selected winners will be notified via email on Friday morning. The email will contain a link to buy a bottle of Embrace the Void.
  3. Winners will then have a stress-free-no-cart-protection-needed 24 hr period to complete the transaction and secure the bottle.
  4. Each winner will be able to purchase one (1) bottle of Embrace the Void for $28.
  5. To keep things safe for our staff, purchasers will select a preferred pickup window during their transaction. Number of people per pickup window is limited and selection is first come, first served. Available time slots will range from Saturday (5/2) – Wednesday (5/6).
  6. If any bottles are not purchased within the 24 hr time period, they will be forfeited and placed into taproom inventory, which would go on sale to the public Thursday morning (5/7).

You’ve got questions?

Does this have peanuts in it?

Yes. A shit ton. Don’t drink it if you have a peanut allergy.

How long do I have to enter the raffle?

Raffle starts NOW and ends on Friday, May 1 at 8:00 am.

How much does it cost to enter the raffle?

Zilch, nada, zero, nothing, zoinch, zip, nil, diddly-squat, cero, -$0. It’s FREEEEEEEEE! (still have to buy the bottle tho).

How many raffle entries can I get?

One (1), you get one, and you, the person that enters the raffle, must be the one to both purchase & pick up the bottles. No Proxies

How will I know if I win?

The randomly selected winners will be receiving an email Friday morning which will allow them to purchase one bottle. Be sure to check your spam folder, it may or may not be waiting for you in there. You will have 24 hours to purchase your bottle. Any bottles not purchased within that 24 hour window will be forfeited and be placed into the taproom inventory which will then be available for purchase Thursday morning (5/7) in our taproom and our online store.

Can I really buy only one?

Yeah, limit one this time.

How many bottles are available?

200.

Which of the Golden Girls do I most identify with?

Great question! Take the quiz! I got Dorothy, but all my friends say I’m a Rose!

What do I get if I win?

The Golden Girls: 25th Anniversary Complete Collection DVD gift setKIDDING. You’ll have the opportunity to purchase one (1) bottle of Embrace the Void at it’s retail value of $28.

If I win, but don’t want to purchase the beer, can I forward the email to a friend and let them have it?

Nah. The name of the raffle winner must match the name of the person purchasing and the name on the ID of the person who picks up the order.

When can I come pick up my bottle of Embrace the Void?

During your purchase you will be able to select a pick up window. When picking up your bottle of Embrace the Void, please bring a matching ID to that of the person listed on the invoice. Pick up windows will be available between Saturday, May 2 through Wednesday, May 5 during normal quarantine taproom hours.

How long was The Golden Girls on the air?

The Golden Girls first aired on September 14, 1985, and ran for nearly seven years with it’s final episode airing May 9, 1992.

Can I buy more beer when I pick up my bottle?

For sure. You can order some beer online, and we can bundle those beers in with your bottle. Simply write in the comment section of your order that you also have a bottle of Embrace the Void waiting for you, and as long as the names match, we’ve gotchu!

Can I get my bottle of Embrace the Void delivered?

Nah.

Will the beer be available if I don’t win the raffle?

Maybe… Any bottles that aren’t paid for within the 24 hour window will go into the taproom inventory and will be available for purchase in our online store and in the taproom beginning on Thursday morning (5/7). We’ll let you know on Wednesday (5/6).

Will Embrace the Void be on tap once quarantine ends?

Unfortunately not. It’s all gone into the bottles.

All Together

To be honest, we’ve been hit pretty hard by COVID-19. Our fellow breweries, restaurants, and bars that form our Minnesota hospitality industry share a similar story. We’ve all felt the impact, and we’re all in this together. And the way we make it out of this is if we all work together. Our friends at Other Half Brewing out of New York asked us if we wanted to participate in a global collab benefiting those of us in the industry that have been affected by the Coronavirus, and we said hell yeah.

We’re proud to introduce All Together, brewed in collaboration with brewery friends and families far and wide. Each brewery that participates has chosen a local organization that is supporting service industry professionals in their area. Our batch will support The North Stands, who is working to provide direct support to local hospitality workers in need.

Our version of All Together was brewed very closely to the original recipe that Other Half provided us, with a few modifications (because, Modist!). Our batch used Sabro hops in place of Cascade, which will give it a tropical flavor layer to pair nicely with the good vibes that you’ll catch knowing you’re doing good just by drinking it.

All Together is brewed with Malted Barley, Flaked Oats and love, then hopped and dry hopped w/ our selected Mosaic, Citra, Simcoe, Sabro and another dose of love. It clocks in at 6.3% abv.

We’ll be releasing All Together in the taproom via pick up or delivery on Saturday, May 2nd, which will be followed by the retail release beginning on Tuesday, May 5th. Check back here on Monday, May 4th for the full delivery schedule.

ABOUT THE NORTH STANDS

The North Stands was launched as bars and restaurants began to shut down in Minnesota due to COVID-19, and there was a growing need for hospitality worker support. Lydia Andresen created the idea of The North Stands and partnered with Northbound Creative, Chef David and Lori Fhima, Elijah Fhima, Chef Justin Sutherland and The Sanneh Foundation to launch the campaign raising funds to provide a stipend in support of those hospitality workers who have lost income to shutdowns during this unprecedented time.

First Call is Back in Cans!

Just in time for your morning quarantine meeting, FIRST CALL IS BACK IN CANS FOR A LIMITED TIME! Crisp and light for easy drinking, but inoculated with some of the finest coffee beans known to humankind (shout out Wesley Andrews). Guaranteed to keep you alert and dominating that sales pitch without having to stop drinking.

We’ll have a limited amount going into liquor stores. Check back on Monday and periodically after as we continue to add the accounts below. Get in before it’s gone!

An Investigation into the Illbrewminati

Did it actually exist?

Did what exist?

What time did the link go live?

Admittedly, it’s becoming more and more difficult to rely on our sundial with all these buildings sprouting up in Minneapolis. Each one that pops up we’re like “damn, now we gotta move it again.” It’s been a real headache.

For real though, the link was pushed live a minute before 9 am to account for how long our servers/internet gods usually take to make an item live on our site, but apparently the internet gods made it live within seconds and that was that. 9:01 would have been more fair than 8:59, and now we know for next time.

What about the reports of bottles being sold even before that?

Unfortunately, a private pre-sale link was shared and circulated by a trusted member of our Modist Makers club, and 39 of the 300 bottles reserved for the public were purchased before they should have been. We’ve made sure this won’t ever happen again

How long before it was gone?

By our best guess, less than 30 seconds? Honestly, it was faster than the first time we refreshed on our end. So, wow. Congrats to the fastest of the button clickers.

Why no cart protection?

This is simply something our POS/ecommerce company (Square) doesn’t offer, and was a surprise to us. While having a platform that protected your cart wouldn’t have changed how fast the bottles disappeared, it also wouldn’t have created the false sense of security that your items were safe. Anyone who stopped to add something else to their cart, or changed their tip to help support our staff, probably got hosed and that blows. We’ve checked with Square and there are currently no plans to add this feature, so we’ll be exploring other platforms/lottery options for releases like this.

Why not limit the beer to 1 per person?

This one was tough. We understand the benefits of decreasing the limit and would love it if more people had a shot, but it also would have forced twice as many people to leave their homes AND forced our staff to be exposed to twice as many people. We sided with the option of less exposure and feel it was the responsible thing to do.

PROXIES?!

Another tough one. While we tried to not blast the internet with the fact that we would bend on our no proxy rule, given the circumstances we did allow people to pick up for others. Some people are vulnerable and shouldn’t leave their houses, ya know? For the next one, we’ll go back to a no proxy rule and examine requests on a case by case basis if all this bullshit is still going on.

Will this eventually be on tap?

Unfortunately not.

Will there be a Vol. 2?

Of what?

Hey friends! We miss you.

Hey friends! We miss you. Today we should be hosting you at our house for a big celebration of Modist’s 4th Birthday party. We should be in the warehouse, jumping or wiggling or wallflowering to live music. Green Greens should be pouring non-stop all day, and the elusive Illbrewminati should have kicked by the end of the weekend (if it actually existed). We should be absorbing art from local artists, and watching live art be created throughout the evening. We should be raising money for a local charity, because that is how we celebrate the existence of this brewery–by celebrating and supporting our community, because without it we know that we would not exist.

Modist has always been about more than beer. Beer is our chosen catalyst for executing our mindset. Modist is an idea, a lens with which to look at and approach anything and everything.

What we need now more than ever are modifiers. The idea of Modist has always been about challenging norms, and never being satisfied with the status quo. The thought that manifested Modist into being was, we know what beer has been, but where can beer go? We’ve spent the last 4 years experimenting, and continually executing the asking of that question. We as a brand and as employees have expressed what Modist is to us through beer, through our taproom, and through our events.

So tell us how you Modify. Share with us, share it with your friends, share it with the world. What do you modify? Why? How have your creative outlets changed since the hit of COVID-19? What gives you hope? How can we better support our Modist family out there? Like, for real. We want to know. Make a video, make a post, send an email  [info@modistbrewing.com] and share it with your friends, family, us or keep it to yourself. Hell, tag us in it and let us know.

This isn’t a pop quiz, we just truly want to know. This is a check in to make sure that you all are doing okay out there, not a check out to feeling sad about missing the anniversary party. And if you are bummed about missing the anniversary party, that’s okay. We are too.

Keep being yourself, now, especially. Keep your humans strong. Stay present, and stay endlessly unapologetic of who you are. But most of all, stay healthy and respectful, friends.

We love trying to awkwardly smother you in love and appreciation from afar, but we’d much rather be cheersing and sweating with you in a packed warehouse space in the North Loop. We don’t know for sure when, but we will see you again. We seriously can’t wait to get the taps flowing again.

Until that is safe to do, stay authentic, stay healthy, keep modifying, and support your locally owned businesses. We ❤️ you, and cheers to you for supporting Modist. Cheers to 4 years down, and forever to go.

The Illbrewminati Doesn’t Exist

Don’t listen to those conspiracies. They’re simply not true. The Illbrewminati doesn’t exist, it never did exist, and it never will exist. And Illbrewminati Vol. 1 isn’t a thing. It isn’t a collaboration between us AND Barrel Theory AND Forager. It wasn’t two separate imperial stouts aged in separate bourbon barrels. One of them wasn’t a 12 year Knob Creek barrel that was once used for Boozehound. The other barrel never held any Boone County Bourbon. The two barrels weren’t blended together to create the initial Illbrewminati because the Illbrewminati doesn’t exist. There wasn’t a conditioning period where the blended beer sat on toasted coconut, banana, Madagascar vanilla beans & cocoa nibs. There is simply no way this Bourbon Barrel Aged Imperial Stout could be 12.2% ABV because it’s not real. None of that happened.

However, if it did actually exist, which it doesn’t, it would probably be released THIS SATURDAY APRIL 18TH. And if it did exist, which it doesn’t, it would probably be available on our online store beginning Saturday morning at 9 am with a limit of 2 bottles per person, and be available for pick up OR delivery. But it doesn’t exist, so you shouldn’t worry about it.

Green Greens is back!

Forget the bowl, grab your favorite glass. Roll up and take a hit of Green Greens because it’s back for a limited time. This dank brew has been hashed out to be a Double Dry Hopped New England IPA brewed w/ only oat & wheat malts, double dry hopped w/ Sabro, Galaxy, and cryo Simcoe. Fluffy, sticky icky, and heady, it’s a solid DDH NEIPA that leans hard at 7.3%, AND will be dispensed into liquor stores starting the week of 420!

Green Greens will be released on Saturday 4/18 online for pick up and delivery. Make a drop back here on 4/20 for the full delivery schedule.

Amongst the Madness

Everything is off right now. The whole world seems to be upside down. Things are so strange that we’re putting a Kolsch into cans? A nice simple, clean Kolsch with no crazy hop additions, no off the wall adjuncts, and not a single acronym that we can add to it. You’re probably thinking that we were planning on just kegging this for the taproom but now that doesn’t make any sense so we decided to put it into cans. You’re right.

Introducing Amongst the Madness, a 4.5% Kolsch brewed with Weyermann Barke Pilsner malt and hopped with Sultana and Hallertau Mittelfruh. That’s it. That’s all there is to it. Releasing for curbside/taproom pickup, and delivery on Saturday, April 4th and hitting retail the following Monday, April 6th.

Check back here on Tuesday for the full delivery schedule.
