DDH Indacouch Double IPA comin at ya

Yo. We’re happy to announce something you’ve all been waiting for: we’re releasing a beer with a label designed after your Great Aunt Jean’s ugly sofa. Introducing Double Dry Hopped Indacouch Double IPA – a new take on an old fave that guarantees to easily bake right in to a long night on the couch.

It’s an 8.5% ABV DIPA made from a Maris Otter barley and malted oat mash, then whirlpool hopped with our hand-selected dank Mosaic hops, then double dry hopped with sticky Galaxy hops and Cryo Mosaic. Heavy aromas of dank pineapple and peach, ripe mango, lemon rind and some tasty kush. Soft mouthfeel with slight bitterness. Put that in your pipe and smoke it.

It’ll be on tap beginning this Saturday, March 9th, and hit liquor store shelves beginning Monday, March 11th.

Beers, Books, and Babes on Women’s Day

We’re celebrating International Women’s Day the only way we know how: releasing a ground-breaking beer to benefit two change-making causes. On Friday, March 8th we’ll be releasing our first ZERO IBU hazy IPA that we’re calling “Has that line ever worked for you before?!” It was proudly designed, brewed, and named by the women of Modist, and we’ve proudly decided to donate $1 of each pint sold to Pink Boots Society to support their effort to support women in the beer industry, AND $1 of each pint sold will be donated  to And Now She Rises, a local non-profit that provides resources to domestic abuse shelters.

We’ll be celebrating the release beginning at 6 PM with some badass lady DJs followed by a very special performance from the one and only Ashley Dubose. The event will also kick off a BOOK DRIVE! Beginning on International Women’s Day and continuing through the month of March, Modist will be collecting donations of any and all books that And Now She Rises will give directly to the libraries of local women’s shelters.

More details below.

“Has that line ever worked for you before?” is a hazy IPA brewed with a special Pink Boots Society hop blend, Strata, and ZERO bittering hops (cause feminism and equality aren’t about bitterness yo). It’ll be on tap with a limited amount of crowlers available to take home that feature the above artwork.

The celebration will feature a performance from the one and only Ashley Dubose. Ashley is probably most widely known for her hit single, “Intoxicated”, and for her participation in Season 5 of NBC’s The Voice.

Ashley began singing and writing music at the age of 10 years old, eventually finding her way to a 2013 audition on NBC’s The Voice.  Her blind audition compelled all four celebrity coaches to turn their chairs and vie for her to be on their team. Ashley chose Team Adam and went on to become a top 32 contestant on the show. After her participation on the The Voice, Ashley returned home to begin working on her second body of work which would later be known as Be You.  Ashley released Be You in March of  2015.

In 2014, Ashley was chosen “Best Vocalist (Female)” by one of the most respected news and entertainment sources in her hometown, City Pages, for their annual Best of the Twin Cities magazine issue. Always a dreamer and determined woman, Ashley is working to spread feel-good music to the masses, with dreams of one day realizing Cee-Lo Green’s 2013 prediction that he would be routing for Ashley “front row at the Grammys!”

Ashley DuBose is realizing her childhood dream. She is determined to be a living example to her daughter that when you fuel a dream with heart and action, that dream will, in time, become reality. (Bio from Ashley’s website)

From And Now She Rises:

Everyone – regardless of economic status, race, age or religion is affected. In fact, the FBI estimates violence will occur during the course of two-thirds of marriages. And because domestic abuse isn’t always physical––it can be verbal attacks, emotional manipulation, extreme isolation and financial control––it doesn’t always leave marks we can see. That’s why the CDC has called this a hidden epidemic and a “serious public health problem.”

At And Now She Rises, we think the answer (or the ANSR, ahem) is up to the public too.

Only a woman can pull herself out of an abusive situation, but moving forward from that point on requires community… from safety-plans for the hours immediately after she escapes to the support groups she may need to rely on for years afterward; from legal help to housing logistics to learning how to engage in healthy relationships again. And most important of all: understanding. A survivor needs our willingness to see her reality and circle the wagons around her.

Together we can help turn a woman’s pain into power. And that kind of positivity also affects the whole world.

From the Pink Boots Society:

Mission: The Pink Boots Society was created to assist, inspire and encourage women beer industry professionals to advance their careers through education.

Organizational Goals:

  1. Support PBS members to advance their beer careers through education.
  2. Teach women beer professionals the judging skills necessary to become beer judges at the GABF and other competitions.

Who Are the Pink Boots Society®?

We are the female movers and shakers in the beer industry. We get the beer brewed and fermented with the highest possible quality. We also own breweries, package the beer, design beers, serve beers, write about beer, and cover just about any aspect of beer, and we are all women. Most importantly, we teach each other what we know through our own seminar programs, and we help each other advance our beer careers by raising money for educational scholarships.
