Albert II, in Memoriam

For several years space exploration was done almost exclusively with animals, mainly monkeys, chimps, and dogs. Humans were unaware of how the body would react to weightlessness for an extended period of time. Therefore, they didn’t want to risk human life with any test launches into the great unknown. They would strap the animals into rocket ships, launch them off into the atmosphere, monitor how all of it affected their bodies, and make scientific hypotheses accordingly.

On June 11th, 1948, the first monkey was catapulted up into the air in a missile-like rocket ship known as a V-2 Blossom. This monkey’s name was Albert I. That sunny day in the New Mexico dessert would go down in history, even though it was not well documented. The lack of fanfare and greater public knowledge would result in Albert I being an unsung hero to scientists and astronauts alike. Unfortunately, Albert I died during the launch and no atmospheric data about how weightlessness would affect a body was obtained.

A little over a year later on June 14th, 1949, another V-2 Blossom was shot off into the atmosphere carrying another monkey–Albert II. He survived the initial launch and was able to soar  83 miles above the earth. This would widely be considered the first rocket to ever hit space carrying life. Albert II’s momentous ride was on track to become one of the greatest achievements in space exploration. He was about to be the key to us becoming the first country to travel into space and later walk on the moon. He survived the initial ascension, but unfortunately, he died on impact during his re-entry. We’d like to think that if he did live through that harrowing experience he, along with all his fellow scientists, would have celebrated their momentous feat with a cold beer.

Unlike most of the Pale Ales and IPA’s you’ve come to expect from us, Albert II is on the more crisp and bitter end of the beer spectrum. This crisp creature is slightly dry with complexities that include a biscuity, malty body and notes of strawberry candy, lemon-lime, and grapefruit pith. We believe that Albert II would be a bit bitter since you probably didn’t even know who he was until you read this blog. We made this beer in remembrance of him. He made it to space, made it back, but didn’t live to see his rightful glory. Rest in peace my furry little friend, rest in peace.

Help us celebrate the life of Albert II on Saturday, June 29th as we host a release the beer in his honor. Albert II will only be available in the taproom and select tap lines throughout the metro area.

RIP, Albert II

It’s a Triple Double Release Party!

We’ve got a whopper of a beer release for ya. THREE BEERS will be released on June 22 beginning when we open at noon! Two of America’s favorite beers are back and a brand new rendition of one of our classics! All three beers have double the flavor and double the fun!

Back by popular demand, DOUBLE DREAMYARD is the amped up version of our most popular beer, Dreamyard, a hazy, super juicy New England IPA made with a malt bill of ENTIRELY oats and wheat and heavily hopped with Citra and Denali.

Also back by equally popular demand, DOUBLE FALSE PATTERN is the Hulk to the Bruce Banner that is False Pattern, a soft, hazy, juicy New England Pale Ale made with a grip of oats and heavily hopped with Mosaic.

Finally, DOUBLE SHOT FIRST CALL, everything you love about First Call but amplified with an extra shot of coffee and a good grip of cocoa nibs and vanilla added to inspire the barista in all of us. Latte foam art not included.

Check out the TRIPLE DOUBLE RELEASE PARTY for yourself or swing in throughout the weekend and get some of this in your belly before they hit the market. Double Dreamyard and Double False Pattern will be making their way into cans again this year in a very limited quantity. Double Shot First Call will be a taproom-only delicacy.

For full delivery details, check back here on Friday, June 21st.

Are You INTO IT?

The outdoors are pretty much what Minnesota is best at. We boast about our 10,000 lakes, even though we all know it much closer to 12,000. We dream about heading to the cabin, lounging on the beach, or taking your friend’s parent’s boat out for a few laps on the lake. We post selfies with our catch of the day and tell stories of the ones that got away. We bike, we hike, and we pitch our tents to be as close to nature as we can. The Great Outdoors, we’re definitely into it.

As a brewery, we may be smack dab right in the middle of the metropolis that is Minneapolis, but we too dream of the scent of pine in the morning and waking up to the warmth of the sun as we lift our eyelids to a new day. We make plans to take extended weekends simply to have one more day for the lingering aromas of bonfire to inflate lungs. Much like the rest of Minnesota, Mother Nature, we’re into it.

We’re also into making high-quality beer – and super into the idea of creating something refreshing and easy to drink that won’t stop you from exploring whatever “the outdoors” means to you. Which is exactly why we created INTO IT, a thirst quenching lager brewed with Raspberries and Lime. Made with actual whole raspberries and real, from the earth, limes, this easy drinking lager is perfect for every outdoor activity.

The Pilsner malts (from right here in Minnesota) lend to this beer a nice crisp mouthfeel, and the touch of white wheat malts (also from Minnesota) added softens it all out so that the fruits can linger on your tastebuds. Both the raspberries and the limes hit at just the right spots to keep you refreshed where ever these cans take you. Sitting at a simple 4.5% ABV, it won’t prevent you from enjoying every single one of Minnesota’s 12,000 plus lakes. Are you INTO IT?

You’ll be able to get INTO IT on tap here starting Saturday, June 8th, and it will start hitting liquor stores the following Monday. See below for the full delivery schedule!

A blue beer and Fruit City

This Saturday = a double dose of new beers. Check out these wallops:

On the left.. Tropic Level: Blue. It’s a 9.5% abv Tiki Style DIPA that was inspired by the classic “Blue Hawaii” tiki cocktail. It’s brewed w/ pineapple, tangerine, coconut, milk sugar, and raw cane sugar – then dry hopped w/ Denali and Cryo Sabro to amplify the tropical pineapple and coconut aromas and flavors. And also it’s blue.

On the right… Fruit City, an apricot and peach fruited smoothie style sour ale. It’s a smooth and fluffy wheat malt based beer with a touch of creamy milk sugar and a ludicrous amount of apricots & peaches.

Both are available at noon on Saturday with limited crowlers available. You can also roller skate with the MN Roller Girls starting at 2 pm. What a day.
