FYI ICYMI BT + MBC = <3
YGLT*, if you know who we are (we’re Modist Brewing Co.), you most likely know BT (Barrel Theory). If you don’t, BT is one of STP’s most exciting and innovative breweries… YKW, come to think of it, not just STP, let’s update that to MN… no no no, THE UNITED STATES. Their IPAs are killer, stouts are on point, and the whole crew over there are top notch peoples. We could go on and on about our little TC, but we’ve got some bigger fish to fry here.
As you may have seen, BT came by our house to brew some beer. Low and behold, we made some beer. A beer in the style of an IPA. A DDH DIPA, 2B exact. In order to make this beer a whole lotta special, we hopped it with Citra Cryo, Galaxy, Mosaic Cryo, and Strata hops. We also added a little something known as Turbinado Sugar.
IKWYT, “IDK what Turbinado Sugar is nor do I know why having this in a beer is cool.” Turbinado Sugar, AKA “Tornado Sugar” here in the marketing office, is pretty much pure cane sugar. This sugar has almost no processing done to it which gives it really nice light brown colored crystals. Essentially, the sugar cane crops are juiced and that juice is then left to evaporate, but only slightly, which leaves those pretty little brown crystals behind. Due to the fact that the sugar is less refined, a small amount of the sugar doesn’t fully ferment out adding a creamy mouthfeel and attributes a slightly more complex, more rich flavor.
This will be one of the very few BT beers to make it into liquor stores, and it begins hitting those shelves starting on Monday, May 20th. Check back here on the 17th for the full delivery schedule. You’ll also be able to get it on tap here at Modist beginning THIS SATURDAY, May 18th.
