Pub Talks: Rogue Federal Officials
A conversation on ICE violence in Minnesota, accountability, and community action with Karianne Jones and county attorney candidates.
Pub Talks: Rogue Federal Officials
In the midst of the holiday season, federal agents descended upon Minnesota in the name of immigration enforcement. These masked and armed agents have terrorized communities and subverted constitutional order — using excessive force, making warrantless detentions, and engaging in racial profiling. Those unconscionable tactics came to a head when ICE agents shot and killed Renee Good and Alex Pretti in Minneapolis. In the aftermath, President Trump and his allies have made clear that there will be no accountability, no justice, no reform.
On Tuesday, February 24, legal expert Karianne Jones will speak about the roles of citizens and elected officials in pushing back. The discussion will cover existing civil and criminal authorities that can be leveraged to constrain the unlawful activity of rogue federal officials; policy efforts and community actions that can better protect communities; and suggestions on ways to strengthen and expand the state law tools for advocacy and accountability.
In recognition of the important role that the county attorney plays, there will also be brief remarks from several candidates for Hennepin County Attorney, who will share their plans if elected, followed by a moderated Q&A with all speakers.
Sharp Signs will be on site to screen print clothes or bags.
This is our take on “Lectures on Tap” – drinks will be available for purchase during this ticketed event. IDs will be required for entry.
All proceeds from ticket sales will be used to cover screen printing material costs, and the remainder will be redistributed to mutual aid campaigns in Minneapolis.
