Last July, in the wake of the murder of George Floyd, Marcus J. Baskerville, of Weathered Souls Brewing in Texas, started the Black is Beautiful initiative to help bring awareness to the injustices that many people of color face daily. Our version saw that 100% of the net proceeds were donated directly to Justice Frontline Aid.
We took that Imperial Stout, loaded it in Four Roses Bourbon Barrels, and let that rest for a year. Now, we’re celebrating Juneteenth by releasing Barrel Aged Black is Beautiful! Net proceeds from BA BIB will again be going directly to Justice Frontline Aid as they continue to provide much needed aid, resources, and education to those who put their bodies on the frontlines in the fight for justice.
Our version of Barrel Aged Black is Beautiful is an Imperial Stout brewed with malted wheat and barley, flaked oats, double roasted caramel malt, and a wide variety of chocolate malt and roasted malts. Conditioned on hazelnuts, coffee and Ghana cocoa nibs, then aged for 1yr in Four Roses Bourbon Barrels. BA BIB comes in at 13% ABV
BARREL AGED BLACK IS BEAUTIFUL RAFFLE
Please read the rules and FAQ’s below for our Barrel Aged Black is Beautiful Imperial Stout bottle release raffle:
- Raffle available NOW through Friday, June 18th at 9:00 am.
- Randomly selected winners will be notified via email on Friday (6/18) around 10 am that will include a link to purchase your bottle online.
- Winners will then have a 24 hr period to complete the transaction and purchase the bottle.
- One (1) bottle per winner at $35.
- Winners will select a preferred pickup window during their transaction. Available time slots will range from Saturday (6/19) – Wednesday (6/23).
- Person picking up must have an ID that matches the purchase AND the raffle entry.
- If any bottles are not purchased within the 24 hr time period, they will be forfeited and placed into taproom inventory the following Saturday.

Unfortunately, the pandemic isn’t completely behind us. Plus, we want to make sure the beer bottle buying community all has an equal chance of being able to purchase a bottle.
WHAT’S THE POINT OF BLACK IS BEAUTIFUL?
The Black is Beautiful initiative is a collaborative effort among the brewing community and customers, created by Marcus J. Baskerville at Weathered Souls Brewing, that brings awareness to the injustices that many BIPOC face daily. Their mission is to provide a platform to show that the brewing community can be an inclusive place for BIPOC. We are asking for all breweries and brewers far and wide to raise a glass with us in unison and participate in this collaboration.
SO THE NET PROCEEDS GO TO CHARITY?
Every last penny of profit will go directly to our friends at Justice Frontline Aid, the collaborative effort started by local musician Nur-D and his crew. All money raised by Black is Beautiful will go directly to helping them support communities affected by racial injustice, as well as providing much needed first aid to those putting their lives in danger while peacefully protesting.
HOW LONG DO I HAVE TO ENTER THE RAFFLE?
Raffle starts NOW and ends on Friday, June 18 at 9:00 am.
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO ENTER THE RAFFLE?
Entering the raffle is completely free, but if you win you’ll still need to purchase the beer.
HOW MANY RAFFLE ENTRIES CAN I GET?
One (1), and you, the person that enters the raffle must be the one to both purchase & pick up the bottle. No Proxies.
HOW WILL I KNOW IF I WIN?
The randomly selected winners will be receiving an email Friday around 10am which will allow them to purchase one bottle. Be sure to check your spam folder, it may or may not be waiting for you in there. You will have 24 hours to purchase your bottle. Any bottles not purchased within that 24 hour window will be forfeited and be placed into the taproom inventory which will then be available for purchase the following Saturday (6/26) in our taproom and our online store.

Nah. The name of the raffle winner must match the name on the order, and the ID of the person who picks up the order.

During your purchase you will be able to select a pick up window. When picking up your bottle of Black is Beautiful, please bring a matching ID to that of the person listed on the order. Pick up windows will be available between Saturday, June 19th through Wednesday, June 23rd during normal taproom hours.

CAN I BUY MORE BEER WHEN I PICK UP MY BOTTLE?
For sure. You can order some beer online, and we can bundle those beers in with your bottle (simply write in the comment section that you also have a bottle of Black is Beautiful), you can have some beer on tap, or simply order beer at the counter when picking up your bottle.
WILL THE BEER BE AVAILABLE IF I DON’T WIN THE RAFFLE?
Yes, we will have a very limited amount on tap and any bottles that aren’t paid for within the 24 hour window will go into the taproom inventory and will be available for purchase in our online store and in the taproom.
